Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) is a professional association represents Ethiopian Midwives. It is established in 1992 and registered under the new Ethiopia Civil Society’s Law. The association has eleven chapter offices in all regions and city administrations. EMwA is a member of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) since 1993. There are 16,925 midwives in Ethiopia among them 7,000 of midwives across the nation are registered as a member. Over the past 28 years the association has developed its experiences in working with development partners in line to Ethiopian Ministry of Health (MOH) and Regional Health Bureaus’ (RHB) needs and contributing its part in improving the health mothers, Newborns, children, adolescent and youth.

EMwA has developed a strategy plan for the period 2016-2020 which is aligns with the Federal Ministry of Health’s; Health Sector Transformation Plan I (HSTP_I 2016-2020). EMwA has four strategic directions that guides the strategic plan execution namely; 1) Capacity Building, 2) Advocacy, 3) Networking and partnership & 4) Research and publication.
EMwA have an ample experience in executing various high impact projects in partnership with International confederation of Midwives and Leardal Global Health, UNICEF, UNFPA, Jhpiego, Pathfinder International, and other local professional Associations to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
