SNNPR Standard of Midwifery Care Practice dissemination workshop concluded

 

An overview of the Standard of Midwifery Care Practice document in Ethiopia, which is developed by the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) in collaboration with UNFPA and EMwA was presented and disseminated at the SNNPR Chapter office Meeting of the Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) held in Hawassa, Central Hawassa hotel on the 13th of March 2016. The presenter Ato Dawit Hailu, Acting Executive Director of the Association emphasized the importance of the document on improving the quality of Midwifery care across the country.  He also advised members to use the document in their health facilities. Finally, participants discussed in the document in a group and provided their opinion on the Standard.

Rainier Valley midwives offer “culturally competent” care for diverse moms

The midwives who volunteer at the clinic have roots in Ethiopia, Somalia, Brazil, Hawaii and India, and are predominantly women of color. But it’s hard to keep up with the diversity of the neighborhood, says Tara Mudaliar, another midwife and co-founder at the clinic.

World Prematurity Day

 

World Prematurity Day is observed on November 17, 2015. World Prematurity Day is an observance held on the 17th of November. Approximately 15 million babies are born prematurely each year accounting for more than one in 10 of all babies born worldwide.According to the World Health Organization (WHO) Kangaroo mother care (KMC) is a method of care to meet a baby’s needs for "warmth, breastfeeding, protection from infection, stimulation, safety and love." It's a highly-effective intervention for pre-term and low birth weight babies.

Drama presentation at the Assembly

 

The Addis Ababa Chapter Office midwives have shown a drama presentation at the Ethiopian Midwives Association 24th General Assembly held in Addis Ababa on the 23rd of October 2015 under the theme of “Midwives: for a transformed Ethiopia”.. The drama script was written by Amhara Chapter Office; the drama tried to address the real situations of birth in rural community and the community perception towards health workers.
