New Life & New Hope, a Sandoz corporate responsibility program, is committed to sponsoring four Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care trainings for 100 healthcare professionals, or midwives, in Ethiopia. The trainings of these 100 midwives will impact the care of approximately 40,000 pregnant women in the Addis Ababa area. The trainings are facilitated by the Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA).
Ethiopia Midwives Association (EMwA), in collaboration with the Federal Minister of Health (FMOH) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), recently conducted a nine day workshop under the theme: Midwives, for a Better Tomorrow. The workshop was held in Bishoftu, Ethiopia, from February 9-17, 2015.
The winners of the 2014 Best Midwife Award were announced at a ceremony as part of the 23rd Ethiopian Midwives Association General Assembly on 5th December 2014. Dr Amir Aman, State Minister for Health and Sr Aster Teshome, EMwA President, presented each of the winners with a medal in front of the 300 General Assembly participants.
EMwA celebrated its 23rd Annual General Assembly on 5th and 6th of December 2014 with the theme “Improving Labour and Delivery Services through Strengthening and Providing Quality Midwifery Care”. The event, held at the Harmony Hotel in Addis Ababa, attracted more than 300 midwives from around Ethiopia.
