Transformation Plan to Reduce Maternal Death

 

Ethiopia has been showing considerable progress on improving maternal health in recent years. In supporting this fact, State Minister Dr. Amir Aman said that the Ministry has been working together with midwives and has achieved the Millennium Development Goals ahead of time in reducing maternal and child mortality rate, while speaking at the 24th General Assembly of Ethiopian Midwives Association.

UNFPA said midwives play a pivotal role in transforming Ethiopia. UNFPA Ethiopia at the 24th General Assembly of Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) said midwives play a pivotal role in transforming Ethiopia as they play a key role in the continuum of care from community up to tertiary level. Mr. Rakoto Victor, UNFPA Ethiopia Deputy Representative said at the event, investing in midwives is fundamental in accelerating progress towards fulfilling the sustainable development goals. He also assures that UNFPA will continue its support to the government and the association in improving the quantity and quality of pre-service and reproductive health service provision to adolescents, youth and women.

WHO acknowledged the Association's contribution in maternal & neonatal health improvement

 

Dr. Pierre M'Pele-Kilebou Representative of WHO Ethiopia in his keynote message at the 24th General Assembly of Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) with the theme: "Midwives: For A Transformed Ethiopia " acknowledged the Association's contribution in maternal & neonatal health improvement. Dr. Pierre said midwives have shown commitment in making pregnancy safer. Midwives are committed as a leadership as part of transformation in the health sector system. He said the FMOH and development partners rely on midwives to be a change agent with health extension workers.

Jhpiego and EMwA are working together to improve quality of maternal and child health

 

Speaking at the 24th General Assembly of Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) with the theme: "Midwives: For A Transformed Ethiopia "Hanna Gibson country director of the Jhpiego said as a partner Jhpiego and EMwA are working together to improve quality of Midwifery education through supporting national level development of the midwifery guidelines, tools and assigning senior midwives as tutors and preceptors at universities and health science college with critical staff shortages.
