Addis Ababa, August 28, 2017- A new report by the Ethiopian Central Statistics Agency (CSA) finds that the perception of women towards taking a beating has changed over the past five years. However, this year’s report indicates that there is still a lot to be done because the majority of women surveyed still agree that a husband is justified in beating his wife.
A new report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) has found 2.7 million babies die in the first 28 days of life every year.
It says most deaths occur in the first week.
Newborn deaths account for 45% of under-five deaths globally, up from 40% in 1990.
Ethiopia will host international conference on maternal and child health, an initiative jointly started by Ethiopia and India, on August 24 and 25. Under the theme "Overcoming critical obstacles to maternal and child survival", the conference aims to "celebrate" progress to date, share best practices and identify key milestones for achieving the sustainable development goals set out in the Global Strategy for Health of women, children and adolescents (2016-2030), according to an official statement.
