Siblings Win 75,000 Br First Prizes in ICT Competition

Two siblings won an award of 75,000 Br in the Fourth Annual National ICT Innovation Competition, for developing the hardware and software for an electrocardiograph (ECG) machine, a medical device that monitors the functions and therefore checks the health of the heart.

First place winners in the general category were a brother-sister duo. The sister, Absalat Serawit, is a medical doctor, while her brother, Melaeke Serawit, is an electrical engineering student. The software application they developed for the equipment works on both computers and smart phones. The ECG will plot the readings and generate all possible diagnoses, Absalat said. The siblings said they did not know how much they spent to make the equipment, except that they knew similar equipment sells for 80,000 Br in the market.
